Abstract- State of Bihar in India is blessed with a lot of perennial rivers originating in Himalayas and joining Ganga. These rivers create havoc during the monsoon. Because of flat topography, many times these rivers are directionless and follow their own path. Kosi is considered as a notorious river with its courses very often changing. That’s why this river is known as ‘Sorrow of Bihar’. Flat topography has created a lot of water bodies in the form of rivers, lakes, marshes, low lying swamps and water channels. Kabartal Lake (Begusarai District), Jagatpur Lake (Bhagalpur District), Baraila, Lake (Vaishali District) and Kuseshwar Sthan (Darbhanga District) are important wetlands in the state of Bihar. Kabartal lake is Asia’s largest ox-bow lake lying in the district of Begusarai, in the state of Bihar which has been designated as Ramsar Wetland site in the year 2020.
