Title - A REVIEW: ON Effect of steel slag on Partial Replacement of Fine Aggregate

Author's Name - Shaik.Sydha, Dr.T.V.S.Vara Lakshmi

Abstract - Steel slag, a by-product of steel and iron production, is generated in significant quantities daily. These by-products pose challenges and risks to both factories and the environment. However, utilizing steel slag as aggregate in concrete offers a sustainable solution to mitigate the negative impact on the ecological environment. This research paper presents a comprehensive study of the behaviour of steel slag, including an extensive experimental analysis of its effects on fresh and hardened concrete under axial impact compression. The findings from cube tests, which involved varying amounts of steel slag incorporation in concrete, are thoroughly discussed. The results demonstrate that incorporating steel slag as fine aggregate can enhance the static and dynamic compressive strength of concrete. The compressive strength of steel slag concrete under impact loading initially increases and then decreases with higher steel slag content, mirroring the behaviour observed in steel slag concrete under monotonic compression. Furthermore, the inclusion of steel slag in concrete enhances its stiffness and brittleness. However, the failure mode of steel slag concrete under impact loading remains similar to that of normal concrete. To achieve enhanced performance in steel slag concrete under both monotonic and impact compression, further research and improvements are necessary.
