What is the difference between a gastric bypass and a lap band Both of the procedures have to do with extreme amounts of weight loss and restriction of food. The lap band has been around for over 30 years. It is a surgical method for down sizing the stomach. It is a procedure where the patient feels a restriction to the number of calories they can eat. With this procedure they are not able to eat a certain amount of food while still not feeling that hunger they used to feel that caused them to gain a lot of weight in the first place.
