Autism, Joint Hypermobility, & Orthostatic Intolerance
Lauren Smith, an autism self-advocate and psychology student presents the relationship between neurodevelopmental disabilities and physical health problems such as joint hypermobility and orthostatic intolerance. Joint hypermobility refers to the unusually large range of motion of some or all a person’s joints. Orthostatic intolerance refers to the inability to tolerate upright posture because of symptoms such as dizziness, blurred vision, and fatigue. Lauren investigates the relationship between these disorders and assigned gender at birth (AGAB) and whether individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities are screened for the conditions.
