This video explains how to use Boussinesq's equations to estimate the change in vertical stress in the soil mass caused by a point load. This assumes that the soil mass is a homogeneous, elastic, and isotropic medium, and a point load is applied on the surface of an infinitely large half-space. A graphical solution is also shown.
