There are some handy tools available to test your website speed, here are a couple to get you started.
GT Metrix

Before running the test, choose a server closest to the server for your country I.e. London, UK.

What to look for
The Top Speed factors for most websites are:
The Web Host (shared hosting)
No Caching
Mediocre Coding (poor plugins)
Size of the Files (Particularly Photos)
Too many HTTP Requests
Not Using a Content Delivery Network

The Number of Redirections
Not using Keep-Alive Packets
Unknown Malware / Site Hacked
