Hey guys, this is Matt, and today I'll quickly walk you through how to add a sitemap to Google Search Console. So, I’m going to assume you’re already in the backend of Search Console. I have my site, AuteurGraph.com, open here, and you’ll see a list of all your properties. For this tutorial, I’ll assume it’s your first property on GSC, but the steps are the same even if you have multiple.
First, go to Indexing on the left sidebar. You’ll see options like Pages, Video Pages, and the one we’re focusing on today—Sitemaps. Click on Sitemaps, and it’ll open the section where you can add a new sitemap.
Now, for this demonstration, I’m re-adding an existing sitemap. You’ll probably copy and paste the URL from your backend, which I recommend since you want it to be exact. But for this video, I’ll type it out manually to show you how. So, I’ll enter:
auteurgraph.com
Ensure the file format is .xml—that’s required. Once you’ve entered it, click Submit, and if it’s a new or updated sitemap, you’ll get a confirmation that says, “Sitemap successfully submitted.”
From here, you can close the message, and you’re good to go! If your sitemap includes multiple sub-sitemaps, like mine does, you can click on it to view each one. Otherwise, if you just have a single sitemap for all your pages, that’s perfectly fine too.
And that’s it—your sitemap is now live on Google Search Console!
