How do I know I’m doing business to business (B2B) marketing with LinkedIn (LI) correctly?

As with the any marketing strategy, there are smaller indicators along the way to reaching your goal that will tell you if your strategy is working: Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Step 1 = establish a goal. In this case: more revenue. A successful LI strategy would result in more buyers reaching out to him or his website to inquire about working together as a result of his LI activity.

So, what should he do and what KPIs should he watch?

If you are growing a plant, first you look for buds (KPI=buds), then leaves (KPI 2 = leaves), then flowers (KPI 3 = flowers). You count them at regular intervals to see if they are appearing more or less frequently over time. That is analytics – analyzing your project’s progression through the regular review of data.

KPIs starting out on LI:
Connections & Followers
Profile Views
Direct Messages (DMs)
Visits to your website originating from LI

On day 1, don’t expect DMs. 1st track followers. Then move along the list as new KPIs occur.

The same way you ensure you are doing any marketing successfully: you measure your key performance indicators, KPIs, along the way.
