Do not connect with someone on LinkedIn then send them a note offering your product or service.

This would be the IRL (in real life) equivalent of going to a networking event at JCK walking up to someone you never met before and saying ‘Hi I’m Elle, the foremost business strategist in diamonds, gemstones & jewelry and I’d like you to pay me to tell you how to run your business.”

Yuck.

Who likes that person?

No one.

Who hires that person?

There are ENTIRE threads on LinkedIn with pages of comments seconding the fact that there is no one that appreciates this type of spammy fishing for clients.

And do not even THINK about using an automated messenger here.

Here’s how you do it right:
Post valuable content that provides information that helps anyone that might be your potential client or buyer.
Reply to each and every comment
Invite people who like or comment on your posts to connect with you if they may be a good potential client/buyer OR a colleague in your field you might learn from
Follow people who you think might be your potential client or buyer
Comment with something helpful or valuable on their content

In short: Create relationships. Listen to people. Become valuable!
