Utica College’s accelerated nursing program in Florida is online-based, but that doesn’t mean you left completely on your own. We know the key to surviving online classes is receiving the support you need from faculty - even if they aren’t physically there.

At Utica ABSN the online faculty make sure they are available to students and respond right away to help with any bumps in the road.

“The online instructors are really helpful,” says Chelsea, Utica ABSN Class of 2020. “They answer your emails and they are engaged in the discussions.”

While Utica’s ABSN campus in Miramar, Florida is more than 1,000 miles from the main campus, the distance doesn’t impact the quality of your education. Utica ABSN didactic instructors make sure of that.

“I feel like they’ve made sure we know we are a priority even though we are an off-campus site,” says Sandra, Utica ABSN Class of 2019. “They go over the muddy points - things we may have a little extra trouble in understanding, key points we should focus on for the exams, as well as tutoring sessions.”

Utica ABSN online instructors also conduct virtual meetings called “Synchronous Sessions” where you can all attend as a class to ask questions and get extra help. The ABSN students find these sessions to be extremely helpful.

“I think that is a very valuable part of it because you are reviewing the content in your book and going to these meetings you get to ask your questions to your instructor as if you were at school,” says Catalina. “Those sessions are really helpful.”

But you don’t have to just get help in groups. Utica ABSN professors are also available for one on one coaching sessions. It is the one-on-one support that helped Jessica, a Utica ABSN graduate, through a tough writing assignment.

“Not too long ago I was struggling with one of my writing assignments so I emailed my didactic faculty and I let her know what was my concern,” says Jessica. “And within the 24 hours, she contacted me and gave me her number and said whenever you can call me.”

It is this special attention that helps to set Utica’s ABSN program apart from others. Surviving online classes was easy for Jessica with this extra help.

“I really don’t feel like you could get that in other programs besides Utica because you’re a name and not a number,” she says.
