In the Gospel of Luke, a man asked Jesus to help him settle a financial dispute with his brother about his inheritance. Jesus replied by telling him and the crowd the Parable of the Rich Fool.

First, he warns the crowd to "Be on your guard against all kinds of greed, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions" (Lk 12:15)

In the parable a rich man's land produces so much crop that he has nowhere to store it. So, he tears down his barn to build a new one. He thinks this will take away his worries. He dreams about relaxing and enjoying good food and drink.

But then God said to the man, "You fool!" because it was that very night that the man would die. Who would get all that is stored up now?

The meaning of the parable is plainly stated by Jesus:

"Those who store up treasures for themselves...are not right toward God."

Therefore:
1) Be generous. Give to those in need.
2) Don't dream about being rich. Your life could be taken at any moment.
3) You can't take anything with you into eternal life. Think about how you can pass on what you own to other after you die.
