I feel so terribly low today

Hey guys,

I started the week feeling terribly low. We all know this, and it can be really hard to pick ourselves up.

I thought I'd share my honest journey through it with you.

I had no idea what would happen or if I'd find any solutions. But I was determined that if I did, I would share them in real-time as I did.

I know you can find many books and instruction manuals out there.

But I think there is a different type of potential in sharing the experience, and I hope you can find some tools and help here.

I've been in the creative arts since 2002, and one of the things I've really learned is how to manage myself.

That's all very well when you're feeling up or life is progressing. But it can be an entirely different experience when you're in the doldrums.

That's why I decided to invite you in. Maybe some honesty about sharing the actual experience itself—including that many days in the arts can be lonely—might be helpful.

Something that I trust in, is that our moods are temporary and can be moved with work, faith, courage and the willingness to look at our problems.

The hard part can sometimes be working out what the problem is—and that's why it's so useful to sometimes trust your energy to the world and see both what it will bring out of you and how you will react to it.

On this day, I found myself back from my trip to New York to record with producer Gordon Raphael (famous for the first two albums of "The Strokes"). I had such a great week, fulfilling a lifelong dream of recording in The East Village—well, New York in general.

It's a familiar pain point for musicians—coming back from a tour or big recording session can be hard to link back with normal life, especially when things have been so vibrant and exciting.

In fact, I'm sure many of us can relate to that feeling when one chapter is closing and we are moving into the next stage; we just don't know how to get there yet!

It's easy with YouTube to always want to do something that shows you at your best or explores the more exciting parts of your life.

But I'm determined to go deeper with this album.

My idea is that the process becomes the product, and that's why I'm determined to be as open as possible along the way.

So, it's a kind of #buildinpublic album, if you like—and yes, I am feeding off the approach of many of the coders at the moment!

The music in the video is a mix of demos and newly recorded tracks, so it gives you a bit of a vibe of where I'm headed. I'm not sure how or where I'll release the new stuff yet—I have no label again—but it's giving me the fire to just get back to the source and keep creating.

Okay, guys, let me know if the video is helpful and if there's anything I can help with in the comments.

Keep going and trusting in who you are, and things will improve.

They will.

If you'd like to follow more of the videos, I'm vlogging as I go and will link in the playlist - Jim's Vlogs.

Massive love, and see you along the way, Jim
