The thing I love about FM-8 is that you can take what we looked at in the last lesson and combine it with classic FM techniques. In this way you can get the best of both worlds. By using subtractive techniques, a little frequency modulation, and some of the on board FX you can make some really modern sounds. That’s exactly what people like Skrillex were doing back in Bro Steps heyday. This is a good reminder that you should leave no stone unturned with any synthesizer you come across. You never know what combination of settings will spark a sound design revolution. We’ll go through one example following what I call the hybrid FM approach.
