Sound is king but there’s something to be said about usability and practicality. Whether picking a DAW or picking a synth the interface does matter.
With synthesizers especially you want to buy an instrument that sounds good but also inspires you to get creative. Interface can be a big part of that spark. For example if you know you’re really into complex modulation schemes you’ll want an instrument with a drag and drop architecture. If you work on a small (or large) monitor you’ll want to make sure you can easily turn and read all the knobs. These sound like small things but if the interface does not inspire you opening the instrument can feel like a chore and nothing kills inspiration more than that.
