Using DX-7 Algorithims (Matrixes) in FM-8

As we just saw in DEXED, the mod matrix algorithm you choose is chiefly responsible for determining the final sound in a DX-7 (FM) patch. For me, and a lot of people, just starting from scratch in a frequency modulation synth is very difficult. Luckily there is a great solution. You can search for the DX-7 mod matrix algorithm chart online and it will show you all the preset diagrams from the original DX-7. From there all you have to do is transcribe them into the FM-8. We’ll do a couple examples of this in the lesson. In a few cases it can be kind of confusing but even if you get it wrong it doesn't matter because this is just about getting yourself started.
