It was the mid 1990s.
Tarkan had become a big pop star in Turkey.
However, his goals were not limited to Turkey;
he wanted to be on the world stage as well.
This was a bold goal considering that it was almost impossible to achieve international success with Turkish music at that time.
But he wanted to show this courage.
In 1996, when he was at his peak, he went to America.
He decided to move there. But there was a big wall in front of him. They said Turkish music wouldn't work globally. They said, 'Sing in English or they won't listen.
Tarkan studied English for a while. But he didn't want to sing in English. He wanted to be global with his Turkish songs. Producers, managers, media...
No one took his dream seriously. But Tarkan didn't give up.
And in 1997, ‘Şımarık’ was born on his Ölürüm Sana album.

This would be Tarkan's kiss to his dream. "Spoiled" was released as a single in Europe in 1998 and quickly rose to the top of the music charts in many countries. It achieved great success in countries such as France, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
The music video for the song was shot in Marseille, France, in the neighborhood of "Le Panier", famous for its narrow streets and cobbled roads. This international success earned Tarkan the "Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist" award at the World Music Awards held in Monaco in 1999.
In addition, the English version of the song, "Kiss Kiss", was performed by Australian singer Holly Valance in 2002 and reached number one on the UK music charts.
Tarkan's success showed that Turkish pop music could be recognized internationally and paved the way for other Turkish artists.
His determination and vision overcame many obstacles and brought Turkish music to the world stage.
