Hi guys, paperbackwriter82 back with a story for this week's theme: first kiss. Enjoy!
"Oooooo! Becky!"
"You're so lucky!"
"Guys look, it landed on Becky!"
"What?!"
"Becky Tyler's goin in the closest!"
"With who?!"
"Joe Jonas, of course!"
Seven Minutes in Heaven... Have you ever played it? Oh, well I suggest you don't. And if you're ever at a party and your friends start getting this funny idea to play it, strike it down! Give it the old one-two before it gets out of hand. If they're too persistent, then get the heck out of Dodge, cause trust me when I say, you don't want to play.
For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about: I envy you, but I'll explain. It's basically Spin-the-Bottle, but with a twist: whoever the bottle lands on, that boy and girl have to go into a locked room or closest with the lights off for seven minutes, or basically until they make out. What's that you say? It doesn't seem too bad? Wrong! It's torture! Some kind of cruel and unusual punishment designed to make cheerleaders make-out with Dungeons and Dragons dorks!
No, I'm not a cheerleader, and Joe isn't a dork. And it's not the other way around either! In fact, we're not far from each other on the social ladder. Joe's a state ranked choir boy who's number one after school activity is leading our a cappella men's group Pumped Up Chords, even though he's only a junior. As for me, I'm an art student with a fair amount of blue ribbons under her belt. Our circles of friends overlap quite a bit, but out of the six years I've known him, we've only ever spoken twice. Well, out of class at least.
"Get in there Becky!"
"Yeah, go on! Don't be a chicken!"
I trip over a box of puzzles and fall backward. Before I can come to my senses, the door of the closest is slammed shut and the only light comes from a small slit under the door. I get to my feet and reach for the chain to turn on the light. Feeling it tangled in my fingers, I grip it tight and yank. Nothing. Again. Nothing. Once more...
"Don't bother."
The voice floats from the darkness. And I turn around in circles, trying to find where it came from.
"They took out the lightbulb."
I turn sharply to my left, right to the voice, but my foot catches on yet another box of puzzles that crashes to the floor as I fall forward. Two strong hands grab my arms and I collide with his chest.
"Whoa! Careful there Becky!"
"Sorry," I mumble and stable myself.
"It's fine. You okay."
"Yeah, I'm good."
I take a step back and lean against the wall. A few seconds of silence go by as I let my eyes adjust to the light. I can hear my friends giggling outside the door. I know their ears are pressed firmly to it, listening intently. We all did the same thing to Lisa Campbell and Zayn Moses when they were locked in here five minutes ago. I turn to look at Joe and see his face is ever so slightly illuminated by what little light has come under the door. He's watching me closely, almost like the people at museums, studying sculptures so they know their every last detail.
Part 2 up in a jiffy!
