Kicking things off with our old friend… The LoudMax. Just like it says on the tin the purpose of this plugin is to make things loud. It’s a peak limiter with an adaptive release (generally pretty fast release). As you’ll see and hear in this video this is a very transparent processor (little to no distortion) with a distinct release character.
Hearing the release curve of a sonic maximizer is often what differentiates one from another. With the LoudMax the goal is to keep things punchy and dynamic but this is only possible up to a point. When that point is reached and crossed you can quite easily hear the pumping (movement) of the release. Is this a bad thing? No it’s just one option. Later in the video we explore combining multiple instances of the LoudMax. This will allow us to control this pumping a little bit more and potentially get things a bit louder.
As we’ll see in the following video other tools respond very differently to the same source material. So your role as the music producer is to find the best fit for your track.
