First try in trailer music - Composing from Scratch #2
Second creation of a series of short orchestral tracks composed through FL Studio, "I'm not alone" was built around the different feelings of overcoming fears and obstacles. This was also the first time using epic hits and working a bit on sound depth. That has resulted in a longer work time, but the task was definitely bigger!
Time spent on the composition and orchestration: ~ 6 hours
Time spent on balancing and mixing: ~ 2 hours
Identified issues:
Solo voice sounding in a different room
Mix lacking some width (not enough stereo)
Busy mix in the second part (already improved by reducing the reverb and removing some mid-frequencies but obviously not enough).
Too loud at some time
===/ What is "Composing from Scratch"? \===
The composing process takes some practice and can be frustrating at some point. Working on 40 hours projects doesn't really help to keep enthusiastic... The goal of such composing sessions is to work faster and more efficiently on shorter projects and simple melodies. It also allows you to vary the styles and the structures instead of working on the same mix for weeks. The result may not always be satisfying but what really matters is progress and fun.
