Put your headphones on and face the evil spirits in "Fatal Nightmare"!
This Halloween special composition was a new challenge for me, including some sound effects and trying to work on a different style of "horrific" music. It was also a nice occasion to work with trailer stuff.
Time spent on the composition and orchestration: ~ 6:30 hours
Time spent on balancing and mixing: ~ 2:30 hours
Searching good sound effects online: Too much time 😶
Identified issues:
Still some repetitive parts (strings & percussions);
The structure is pretty weak, lacks coherence and a true melody, but this was more like an experiment here;
Too loud at some points;
I should try using simpler sections and avoid making each instrument part different, this makes the track still too hard to follow.
===/ What is "Composing from Scratch"? \===
The composing process takes some practice and can be frustrating at some point. Working on 40 hours projects doesn't really help to keep enthusiastic... The goal of such composing sessions is to work faster and more efficiently on shorter projects and simple melodies. It also allows you to vary the styles and the structures instead of working on the same mix for weeks. The result may not always be satisfying but what really matters is progress and fun. I'll be sharing on my channel some of these ! Feel free to let me know in the comments if you identified other major issues on the track and how to solve the identified ones!
