🔽 My Mind right now - Composing from Scratch #5
A few weeks ago, I had this annoying ad on my phone. You know, the Instagram one? Right, this one. Luckily, I was quick enough to mute the sound. Enough? Not really, I still heard the first three notes. And for some reason, these notes got stuck in my head the whole day and ended up like this. "Installing Reboot System". I never got this ad again. Maybe one day I'll find out that I actually recreated the whole sound without even realizing it, who knows?
But this was fun anyway, this is not the kind of style I usually work on, hope you enjoy!
Time spent on the composition and orchestration: ~ 4:30 hours
Time spent on balancing and mixing: ~ 2 hours
Trying out my samples to find the best sounding ones : Too much time 😑
Identified issues:
The soloist sections could be improved (I guess ?);
The orchestral accompaniment may be too subtle at some point, I should probably listen to more tracks of this style to figure out how to write better sections, to fit with soloists;
Percussions and soloists may lack some cohesion with the rest of the instrumentation, I wasn't able to find a room setting that would satisfy me;
The track is overall too loud.
===/ What is "Composing from Scratch"? \===
The composing process takes some practice and can be frustrating at some point. Working on 40 hours projects doesn't really help to keep enthusiastic... The goal of such composing sessions is to work faster and more efficiently on shorter projects and simple melodies. It also allows you to vary the styles and the structures instead of working on the same mix for weeks. The result may not always be satisfying but what really matters is progress and fun. I'll be sharing on my channel some of these ! Feel free to let me know in the comments if you identified other major issues on the track and how to solve the identified ones!
