I decided to take a challenge for this new track: only free instrument samples allowed! Not gonna lie, I struggled to get it sound like I wanted it to be... But here it is though, I hope you still enjoy!
"Floating Dream" is a story of void, self-reflection and awareness.
Time spent on the composition and orchestration: ~ 6:00 hours
▶ The structure and melodies were finished pretty quickly (LABS piano is honestly incredible with proper reverb) but I had to change the orchestration to avoid confusion and modulate to get another satisfying mood.
Time spent on balancing and mixing: ~ 5:00 hours
▶ Yes, it was a pain.
Identified issues:
To be honest, I don't like the percussions at all. But I couldn't make it better and didn't find any satisfying alternative. I would probably need some more training with sound design :p
The middle part is still a bit too loud and has nothing really special, I guess it could be better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
===/ What is "Composing from Scratch"? \===
The composing process takes some practice and can be frustrating at some point. Working on 40 hours projects doesn't really help to keep enthusiastic... The goal of such composing sessions is to work faster and more efficiently on shorter projects and simple melodies. It also allows you to vary the styles and the structures instead of working on the same mix for weeks. The result may not always be satisfying but what really matters is progress and fun. I'll be sharing on my channel some of these ! Feel free to let me know in the comments if you identified other major issues on the track and how to solve the identified ones!
