Out of the Dark - Composing from Scratch #7
Something different this time, with a bigger structure, more relying on chords. "Out of The Dark" is a story everyone can relate to, a metaphor of the highs and lows of life.
Time spent on the project: Hard to tell 😅 I got sick a bit before finishing the track and had to put it aside for a while, since my ears were blocked and I couldn't hear the mix properly. Besides, this is actually an arrangement of a different orchestration I made, which makes it difficult to estimate the exact time needed for the project. ~15 hours were spent on the file though.
Identified issues:
The balance of the instruments could still be improved;
Solo vocals still feeling a bit elsewhere;
I am still not getting the lushness of the strings I'd like to achieve... almost there!;
The instrumentation choices may sound a bit weird, I would definitely need to change it a 3rd time;
Not an issue, but I'm pretty proud of the outro, which is so rare that it deserves to be mentioned 🙃
===/ What is "Composing from Scratch"? \===
The composing process takes some practice and can be frustrating at some point. Working on 40 hours projects doesn't really help to keep enthusiastic... The goal of such composing sessions is to work faster and more efficiently on shorter projects and simple melodies. It also allows you to vary the styles and the structures instead of working on the same mix for weeks. The result may not always be satisfying but what really matters is progress and fun.
