As a result of this full migration to IP, corporate enterprises will change the way they communicate externally, internally and with their own employees. For instance, fax traffic on the PSTN will fade away and make its way through to gateways and then to IP-based fax machines as these standards solidify.
But that's just one example. With the demand for videoconferencing, using H.323 with data collaboration using the T.120 standard, corporate communications will evolve into a new standard means of communication. Network-computer appliances, now coming standard with a video camera atop the computer monitor, will also augment this means of communication.
All of these innovative means of communication will also contribute to the evolution of the teleworker, also sometimes called a home worker or remote user. These individuals are increasing in numbers more and more each year, and coupled with the ability to perform voice over IP, the numbers will continue to grow steadily for the development of future convergence.
And because these services will drive demand in the corporate world, it would then be just a matter of time before the residential or home user's network is able to take advantage of voice over IP services as well. Those who do not have a cost-efficient means to conduct convergence in the home will now have a means to do so.
