Instead of using the terminal and the command line to install software, you can now use a simple, easy to use GUI (graphical user interface) called OctoPkg.

OctoPkg is a Qt based GUI front end to the pkg package manager, derived from Octopi. It consists of a lxqt-sudo clone called qt-sudo used to gain root privileges and a package browser application used to search, install, remove and update packages. The project is compatible with FreeBSD, DragonFly BSD, GhostBSD and HardenedBSD.

Octopkg is very useful for me. It has many functions such as to show installed files, package description, other metadata, dependencies, even to search for available packages and to list installed ones, to check updates daily and clearing pkg cache upon downloading/installing programs. The best features in Octopkg is it also create a new BE using bectl command before installing any programs. It was very useful to make a backup BE in FreeBSD. I always make a backup BE before install any programs in order to minimize the risk of system malfunction.
