Secteur de l'arachide au Sénégal / Peanut sector in Senegal
Dans la région de Kaolack, la surexploitation des terres et l’utilisation d’engrais chimique pour la culture de l’arachide depuis de nombreuses décennies a provoqué une dégradation importante des sols. De plus, la filière qui fut longtemps contrôlée par l’État, peine à se réorganiser face à la concurrence internationale. Dans ce contexte, les femmes et les jeunes producteurs sont confronté-e-s à des problèmes de rendement et de commercialisation qui affectent leurs revenus.
Afin de remédier à cette situation, le programme Uniterra s’est associé avec le Cadre de concertation des producteurs d’arachides (CCPA) et d’autres partenaires pour soutenir la production et la commercialisation, par les femmes et les jeunes, d’un biofertilisant riche adapté à l’arachide.
Cette initiative a facilité la création de trois unités de fabrication de compost permettant de poursuivre la culture de l’arachide, tout en protégeant l’environnement et en réduisant la dépendance aux engrais chimiques importés. Les unités de compostage ont permis la création d’emplois directs dans les villages et la vente du compost assure la pérennité de ces unités et des bénéfices générés.

In the Kaolack region, the overexploitation of land and use of chemical fertilizers on peanut crops for many decades has led to significant soil deterioration. The industry, which has long been controlled by the State, is struggling to reorganize in the face of international competition. This has created production and commercialization issues for women and young producers, thereby affecting their income.
In response to this situation, the Uniterra program has teamed up with the Cadre de concertation des producteurs d’arachides (CCPA – Consultation Framework for Peanut Producers) and other partners to support women and youth in the production and commercialization of a rich organic fertilizer specially formulated for the peanut.
This initiative facilitated the creation of three compost production units that support peanut farming while also protecting the environment and reducing dependence on imported chemical fertilizers. The composting units led to the creation of direct jobs in the villages, and compost sales are helping to secure sustainable revenues and the long-term viability of the units.
