Meghan Markle had to leave a recent event for a touching reason, as it has been revealed. On Saturday, the Duchess of Sussex attended a book club panel discussion at the newly opened Godmothers bookstore in Summerland, California, not far from her home in Montecito.
During the event, Meghan thanked the founders, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and Victoria Jackson, for "creating and holding a space where people can feel seen, whether in laughter, grief, or simply feeling less alone." The discussion was also attended by TV host Oprah Winfrey.
However, as the discussion was coming to an end, Meghan had to leave quickly. According to Town & Country magazine, she explained to the attendees, "I’ve got to make dinner for the kids." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex currently live in Montecito with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
At the event, Meghan wore an all-black sleeveless jumpsuit by Club Monaco (£315), accessorized with delicate jewelry, and had her hair tied back in a low ponytail. The day before, she joined Harry at the same bookstore for an intimate gathering with Hollywood stars like Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, and Portia de Rossi.
During that earlier event, Meghan looked elegant in a white tank top and ivory wide-leg trousers by Ralph Lauren (£1,290) and black suede court shoes. She completed her look with a Cartier Gold Tank Française Watch (£24,900) and a diamond necklace by Logan Hollowell (£23,236).
Some people commented that Meghan's quick trip to the bookstore, only to leave for dinner, seemed unnecessary and could have been handled with a phone call. They also questioned whether she actually cooks, referencing her previous comments about finding it hard to make toast. Others suggested her appearance might have been more about getting photographed than anything else.
