This lecture is a 16-minute summary of the core content of a live lecture, for which many have requested a "summary."
This lecture explores the anxiety and anger that plague us, and explains how to overcome these negative emotions.
Fear, worry, anxiety, anger, and irritation—various negative emotions—are essentially the same.
The root of all negative emotions is fear, or anxiety.
By freeing ourselves from the root cause of anxiety, most negative emotions will eventually disappear.
Ultimately, the key is how to eliminate anxiety.
To do so, we must clearly understand where anxiety comes from and its nature.
This lecture can be considered a detailed explanation of the first part of Chapter 8 of the book, "Inner Communication."

The prerequisite for strengthening mental strength is to free ourselves from negative emotions. In other words, we must free ourselves from fear and anger and stabilize the amygdala. Stabilizing the amygdala ultimately means effectively managing emotions, which is the foundation of self-regulation, a key element of mental strength.
It should be emphasized once again that "amygdala activation" is a metonymic expression for various bodily phenomena underlying negative emotions. Negative emotions are by no means solely related to a specific brain region called the amygdala.
Negative emotions are entirely rooted in bodily functions. Even when negative emotions are triggered by memories or thoughts, as evidenced by Damasio's somatic marker hypothesis,430 certain memories or thoughts bring about bodily changes, and the brain interprets these bodily changes as emotions, leading to emotional recognition.431
Memories of negative events or worries about the future activate the amygdala. The amygdala acts as a kind of alarm system, alerting the entire body to a "crisis situation."
When the amygdala is activated, various parts of the body tense, the heart rate increases, and blood flows to the muscles, generating energy to overcome the crisis.
The brain detects these bodily changes and, through active inference, experiences feelings of "anxiety" or "fear." Ultimately, negative emotions are the result of our interpretation of our bodily states.
Of course, amygdala activation doesn't always lead to negative emotions.
The amygdala is also activated when we experience intense pleasure or interest.
However, persistent amygdala activation is mostly associated with habitual negative emotions.
Persistent amygdala activation inhibits the functioning of the prefrontal cortex neural network, weakening mental strength.
To strengthen mental strength, we must first train the amygdala to stabilize, thereby subduing the habits that trigger negative emotions and enhancing our ability to recognize and regulate emotions.
When we talk about calming negative emotions through amygdala stabilization, what exactly are we referring to?
It is commonly known that there are various types of negative emotions, such as anger, irritation, anxiety, fear, disgust, frustration, and depression.
However, from a neuroscientific perspective, there is only one negative emotion.
We perceive a single entity as various negative emotions. Various negative emotions are fundamentally one entity, though they are given different names and socially and culturally accepted as such.
Brain science research has also begun to assert that emotions like anger, fear, and disgust, in the traditional sense, are not scientifically grounded entities.
Emotions long considered "basic" in psychology—anger, sadness, fear, disgust, happiness—were believed to have specific brain regions associated with them, and even to be universal and fundamental emotions present in animals.
However, numerous modern brain science studies clearly demonstrate that there are no specific regions or networks corresponding to individual emotions.
The essence of all emotions is fear.
Therefore, problems with emotional dysregulation and the habitual triggering of negative emotions can be solved by freeing oneself from fear.
Strengthening mental strength means freeing oneself from all fears and approaching a state free from anxiety.
In particular, as the fear of failure diminishes, resilience, a crucial mental strength, becomes stronger.
