Not only do smartphones replace our computers on most occasions, but they also make fantastic cameras. Gone are the days when you had no choice but to carry around a dedicated point-and-shoot. Naturally this means there are a ton of apps to help you capture your favorite moments.

FaceTrackCam is an innovative app designed to make sure faces are always the focal point of your photos and videos and features a special zoom effect that is quite amazing.

As I mentioned above, FaceTrackCam, an app by Tatsuya Sato, takes an existing idea and makes it better.

There are plenty of occasions when you would want to be able to automatically zoom in on someone's face, whether it be a child's birthday party, sporting events, or family photos.

Trying to zoom in while taking videos can make your device shake all over the place, leading to less than desirable results. FaceTrackCam offers a plethora of customizable features for you to adjust based on your subject and conditions.

You can easily use the on-screen slider to adjust the level at which the camera zooms in on a face, as well as the speed at which your subject is moving. You can also disable face tracking altogether if you want to capture photos and videos normally.

Unfortunately there is one drawback to FaceTrackCam that I found, which is frequent crashes when you slide the speed option all the way to the left (for a still subject). It seems that the camera works so hard on zooming smoothly that it over works itself and crashes.

FaceTrackCam does offer quite a few customization features as far as adjusting for conditions, but it also has basics such as flash toggling.

You definitely won't find any extra features like filters or editing capabilities, which is definitely disappointing. I think that FaceTrackCam would benefit from these features because it would mean that users don't have to use additional apps to apply filters and effects.

FaceTrackCam is available to download from the App Store for $1.99 and is universally compatible with iPhone and iPad.

When it comes to value, I think the price is a little high for an app that is prone to crashes. Plus, FaceTrackCam lacks any additional features that you come to expect from a paid photo app such as filters and editing tools.

Overall, FaceTrackCam has tremendous potential but it needs some polishing before it's a viable app. Once it's stable, it'll be a great addition to your photo app collection.
