A landslide occurs when soil becomes saturated and there is plenty of water in the soil mass to generate an excess pore water pressure. The main stages are: firstly, the soil must be saturated when lots of water infiltrates the soil mass. Then, due to the presence of water, the pore water pressure is generated, and it reduces the soil strength. When this happens, a landslide occurs.
