The oldest village in Pangalengan
Purbasari Plantation
After Junghuhn's Mount Malabar expedition in 1850, the Dutch East Indies government opened a large-scale cinchona plantation in Pangalengan. One of the first houses built was on the Purbasari plantation. Here, in early 1855, Junghuhn and his entourage built simple houses for quinine research. Purbasari was a silent witness to the establishment of the giant cinchona company in West Java.
