Eng Moses Michael Odongo Okune Swears After Securing Stay Of Execution
Another person has taken the oath of office as the Paramount chief of Lango. Lango Cultural Institution’s Eng. Michael Moses Odongo Okune was sworn in a ceremony presided over by Counsel Makmot Kibwanga, the institution attorney in front of High court in Lira in the presence of other clan chiefs, “Owitong”.
The swearing in followed the staying of execution of a ruling which nullified the election of Eng. Odongo Okune and his subsequent coronation. From the High Court, he was ushered to his home in senior quarters where his supporters were gathered awaiting his arrival. He later addressed the council of clan chiefs, urging them to embrace peace and unity.
Willy Omodo-Omodo, the speaker of council says LCI is operating as a cultural institution not a political party and has no political affiliation.
Earlier, police had dispersed clan chiefs from Lango Cultural Center where they were planning to hold a council meeting after welcoming Eng. Odongo Okune from Apii in Kole district.
In January, the Court of Appeal stayed the execution of the judgment and orders issued by the High Court of Lira in civil suit number 10 of 2024 pending the hearing and determination of the appeal emanating from the said suit.
Last year, clan chiefs under Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF) instituted High Court civil suit No.10 of 2024 challenging the election of Eng. Odongo Okune was the paramount Chief on the grounds that his election was illegal, and in October, the Court delivered judgment in their favor. Upholding the Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii as the Paramount Chief of Lango.
However, Eng. Odongo Okune appealed the ruling, and the matter is still pending hearing.
