GOVERNMENT PLANS TOUGHER MEASURES IN ENSURING FUEL QUALITY COMPLIANCE
Fuel Adulteration
The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has issued a strong warning against the sale of adulterated fuel, citing its negative impact on revenue generation and consumer trust.

The Commissioner of Petroleum Supply at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Rev. Frank Tukwasibwe, revealed that the government is set to begin enforcement actions once ongoing sensitization efforts conclude.
This announcement is aimed at enhancing fuel quality and strengthening monitoring mechanisms for fuel dealers in the country. The sensitization meetings that includes fuel station owners, government officials, and regulatory bodies, is to address concerns related to fuel adulteration and compliance with national standards.
According to UNBS, the Fuel Marking and Monitoring Program is in place to ensure that all petroleum products meet the required standards, ultimately safeguarding consumers and promoting fair competition.

Rev. Frank Tukwasibwe also highlighted that some fuel stations are operating without proper licensing, which poses risks to both consumers and the industry. He emphasized that adulterated fuel not only affects engine performance but also leads to significant economic losses, as consumers fail to get the expected mileage from a liter of fuel.

With sensitization nearing completion, UNBS and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development are set to take tougher action against non-compliant fuel stations. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious fuel quality concerns to the relevant authorities.
