Why does Blue Lock depict Rin Itoshi so consistently with a water aura? Because Blue Lock aims to become the hottest place in the world, and so, Rin the destroyer extinguishes the fire of others - to make them tepid, if you will. That's why Rin is enveloped by water when he shuts down Sendou's effort to become a hero. But fire and water are potent metaphors throughout the series, as this analysis shows: from Sae Itoshi seeing Japanese football for what it is when he returns during a snowstorm, to the show likening Bachira being trapped by his monster in the second selection as him drowning at the bottom of the seafloor. And how about PXG match, where Rin's water is filled with monsters from the deep sea as he's Sae's spectre? As we are shown, this all leads up to Rin finally awakening to his burning desire, to fight and die as the ultimate monster facing off against the mightiest hero.
