Jesus was born for every person on this earth. He stepped into a broken, sin-cursed world so that sinners can be reconciled to a holy and loving God. “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10). The wages of sin is eternal death and suffering in hellfire and Jesus came to rescue us from the condemnation of our sins.
From the manger to the cross, His mission was to save us from our sins. Jesus was born to die, and on the cross He bore our past, present, and future sins in His own body. “Who (Jesus) His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24). Though He was sinless, “the LORD hath laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:6). As God’s righteous wrath against our sins was poured out on Him, Jesus suffered in our place as our Perfect Substitute, enduring hell in our place - the judgment we deserved. “For He (God) hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Jesus is the Lamb of God, God’s perfect and once-for-all sacrifice for the sins of the world. “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). His death fully satisfied God’s holy justice and opened the way for mercy, forgiveness, and peace with God.
This is God’s greatest free Gift to humanity. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). “Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift” (2 Corinthians 9:15). This gift is for everyone - offered freely, received by faith in Christ alone. He was born to die, so that sinners might live, be reconciled, and be welcomed home to God forever.
