This song proclaims the heart of the Gospel. Salvation cannot be earned by our good works. The Bible says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). No effort or ritual can wash away sin. Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all sins. “The blood of Jesus Christ His (God’s) Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
On the cross, Jesus bore our sins and took the punishment we deserved. “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities… and with His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). He became our Perfect Substitute, offering Himself as the atonement for sin and drinking the full cup of God’s wrath against our sins on the cross. His blood was shed for our forgiveness, and His resurrection is our justification before God. “(Jesus) Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification” (Romans 4:25).
Through His death and resurrection, Christ gives us victory over sin, death, and hell. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Without Him is eternal separation from God in hellfire, but in Him is everlasting life in heaven with God forevermore. There is no other way for us to be reconciled to the Holy God but through Jesus: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Christ alone is our Living Hope - yesterday, today, and forever. In times of joy or sorrow, peace or trial, He is with us. He promised, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). His Word strengthens and encourages us: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). In Him we find complete forgiveness and reconciliation with God, victory, and strength for our earthly journey till the day we see Him face to face.
