Hackers can make a lot of money by overwhelming websites with junk traffic to force services offline. The internet recently saw one of the largest attacks ever, peaking at 3.8Tbps.
This attack was blocked by Cloudflare, and came just after the CUPS vulnerability was found to allow amplification of DDOS attacks.
