Classless IPv4 addressing allows us to configure subnet masks of any size when designing an addressing scheme for a network. This technique is called Variable Length Subnet Masking or VLSM. If you're new to IP networks, I'm sure you've heard of this term, and even this explanation, but it's likely that it's not quite clear what VLSM is. In this video, we'll clarify the meaning of this technique, and how it can be leveraged to ensure that you are not wasting addresses, especially when your IPv4 address space is a limited resource.
In this video, we'll actually be examining a real world scenario of a large municipality that has been given a particular address space to operate. This is a network for which I have been network administrator for over a decade, and it is my pleasure to share this experience with you.
