Placer vs Hard Rock mining
A few differences between these two types of mining. Columbia was was a placer mining community. A few miles west, near the old town of Melones, are many old hard rock mines. It is a common misconception that hydraulic mining was used in Columbia, it was not. There was not enough water pressure to do Hydraulic mining here.
