In this CJI 2024 | Levi Jones-Leary - v Kade Ruotolo - Who Really Won? I describe how Levi Jones-Leary was able to complete hard counter the passing style of Kade by using the keymaster, K-guard and Shallow lasso to prevent Kade from passing with his knee cut pass. I also discuss how Kade had to win the crowd's favor to win the last 3 out of 5 rounds and how from a BJJ perspective Levi was the winner.
Levi Jones-Leary has always had an amazing guard but at CJI it looked and in my opinion was all but unbeatable. He pretty much shut down all attempts at guard passing and initiated a ton of leg attacks, upper body attacks and Kade had no real answer for getting around the guard.
Notice how the few times Levi was out of position was when he came up on ton and when he didn't have 4 points of contact to stay in front of his opponent. Levi also utilizes inversions to not only maintain the guard and stop the north south passing which was Kades best look at a guard pass. Levi's guard work against both Ruotolo Bro's showed everyone that his guard is not only defensive in nature but offensive as well.
