051412 Unpleasant Landing At McClure
Those at the 2012 Coyote Howl at McClure this year will know that I had a rather unpleasant landing. These are the first two down-tubes that I've ever busted, and it just so happened that there were two cameras filming the incident. It is here on youtube for you to analyze and leave constructive feedback for me and other young pilots.
This is what I know so far.
The trouble started with a sloppy approach. Instead of a traditional box approach I opted for a series of s-turns which slowly shrank the LZ as I crept forward. The final turn was sharper than necessary and resulted in POI. This was were I made my second mistake by not responding fast enough with enough authority on the glider. As the right wing crested from the oscillation the wing caught some wind coming from the gully to the right, and pushed me into the tree.
Somehow I made it through the tree by massively over correcting, and flew to the opposite side of the approach, into the gully with the hedges...
And I won the whack award :) bitches.
