Full Time Living in our 4x4 DIY Truck Camper
Hey! We're Starr and Daniel, this summer we decided to turn the back of our truck into a tiny home on wheels. As huge fans of all the van life conversion videos we see we got inspired to take the plunge and convert our truck with zero experience. We spent countless hours working to turn the back of our truck into a self converted truck camper. We installed power, heat and made it a very cosy space to live in. So we decided to move, and leave northern BC and the cold weather behind. In this episode we get ready to leave on our 1246 kilometre road trip to the east kootenays. We decided the city of Cranbrook would be a great place to work and enjoy the summer months ahead. With tons of hiking and backroads to explore it seemed like a great area to relocate to while living in our truck camper. First in this episode we strap some extra gear on to our roof rack for the trip ahead. We then made some amazing "lobster" roll sandwiches using lions mane mushrooms and a delicious sauce. Next we went to Prince George which is about 400 km away from Smithers.we visited my mom and got to play with her adorable new husky puppy named Aurora! After a few days in PG we left onwards to the town of Jasper. We then flew right through Jasper onto the Icefields parkway which had just opened after being closed due to several avalanches covering the road. this drive is incredible and a must do when you are in canada. Amazing untouched nature and huge mountain peaks. We had never been through this mountain pass in winter. We were a bit worried about the road conditions but they ended up being excellent except for a few skinny sections near Athabasca glacier. After driving a bit in the dark we made it to Banff National park and the town of Banff. We actually got the cheapest hotel we could find for 130 a night because we came too late to find a camping spot and you can be fined for camping in non designated camping areas within the park. The next morning we visited lake minnewanka. It was a gorgeous lake surrounded by beautiful mountains. We then headed down through kootenay national park. another beautiful park next to Banff, that is less known. As we were gassing up in Invermere I could not get the gas nozzle out of the truck. I thought we were going to have to call somebody to help us but thankfully it came out. We then went on towards Cranbrook. We stayed at a rec site on a backroad near skookumchuck. It is amazing the low levels of snow here and are so glad we seemed to have skipped spring! As we say in the north April snow brings May mud, but that doesn't seem to be the case here!
