The February Revolution of 1917 - how the Russian Empire ended
Today we take a look at the Russian February Revolution of 1917. We'll examine why it broke out and how it ultimately ended.
The February Revolution of 1917 was, in some ways, a continuation of the Russian Revolution of 1905, which erupted as a result of numerous grievances in the Russian Empire dating back to the 19th century and beyond. Due to the heavy defeats and strains suffered by the Russian Empire in World War I, a revolutionary mood once again spread throughout the country in 1917. But unlike in 1905, the February Revolution of 1917 overturned the existing system and paved the way for the Bolsheviks and the outbreak of the subsequent October Revolution.
