MegaRace 2 (1996) - PC Futuristic Racing Games
MegaRace 2 by Cryo / Mindscape, 1996
Compared to their previous futuristic racing game, L.A. Blaster, MegaRace 2 is amazing! It takes everything seen in the 1994 original and uprates it, with better video for the tracks, true 3D vehicles and more wacky presentation from Lance Boyle.
Here you can see a race on the first 2 areas. Annoyingly you have to play each one multiple times in a row (3 races at the opening Foundry track, then over to Tibet, and repeat. The tracks gradually get more complicated.
As you can see, the cars are very evenly matched, which does make races into something of a bumper car fest, with unfair moments like the computer controlled cars suddenly leaving you facing sideways (amusingly the video pauses and you have to turn to drive forwards for it to carry on).
The game's big though, and comes on 2 CD-ROMs (in it's original format).
Overall, like the first game, an acquired taste, but better than the first one in many ways. There would be a third game in the series, which I'll get to (eventually!).
