Yngve Ekström Tulip lamp a 1960s space age classic
Just acquired this acrylic table lamp ’Tulip’ designed by the Swedish designer Yngve Ekström. (It up for sale in our design gallery). Renowned for his high-quality wooden furniture, especially the iconic Lamino chair introduced in 1956, Ekström took an intriguing turn in the 1970s by choosing acrylic as the material for his lamp designs. While plastic furniture wasn’t an option for him, lamps presented a different scenario. It’s fascinating to observe how Ekström utilized this unconventional material, crafting a piece as gracefully beautiful as a budding flower. It’s named the ’Tulip,’ but doesn’t it resemble more of a crocus?
