Power BI - Layering up - Maps and Shape Maps
Understanding how maps are presented within Visualisations tools like Power BI and recognising that it is the same as Google Maps or Bing Maps (for search) is a huge step forward to making the most of what Maps can do for you and your business.
In this video, we look at the two sides of maps, firstly how they present data as as a "Data Layer", but also how the data layer is constructed will affect the performance of the map. A multi-layered data lookup will be inherently slower than a Latitude and Longitude "scatter plot". Finally, we demonstrated how a Shapemap removes the Reference layer to have outlined shapes forming a Data layer only visual entirely based on a contained aggregation.
