Sp23 In-Class Week9: ArcGIS Pro - Example - How to do a Table and Spatial Join
Following an in-class exercise, this video covers how to join data two different ways in ArcGIS Pro: 1) Table and 2) Spatial. The table data are downloaded for the ACS 2021 - 5 year County-Level (Total Population, Median Household Income, and Unemployment %) through Social Explorer. you have to clean up the ACS data and create a new variable for the GEOID to match the boundary shapefile. Keep in mind that for county-level data, there is a 2 digit state ID and a 3 digit county ID, resulting in a unique 5 digit unique identifier, known as the GEOID. The county-level shapefile was downloaded through the Census. Table join was used to join the table data (excel ACS data) to the boundary shapefile).
For the Spatial Data, Child Care Centers (points) were downloaded from the DHS - HIFLD website to do a spatial joins. For this, our county boundary layer contains the points, resulting in a count of child care centers per county.
At the end, I do briefly touch on how to run "statistics" in a specific measure.
