The EZ Bar Upright Row is an exercise that targets the shoulders and traps. If you have past shoulder impingement issues, using an EZ bar, rather than a straight barbell, makes it easier on your joints and allows for pain-free movement of the weight. To get started:
1. Hold an EZ bar with an overhand grip, with your index fingers just outside of your thighs.
2. With your back upright and arms extended with the EZ bar hanging by your thighs, begin the movement by raising your elbows up and out, keeping the bar close to your body, until you reach chest level, but no higher. By raising the bar above your clavicle, you increase the risk of shoulder impingement issues.
3. Your elbows should always remain higher than your forearms and your back should remain stationary.
4. Reverse the movement by lowering the bar back to the beginning position.
5. Repeat for reps.
