Soil Classification in Geotechnical and Civil Engineering | Difference Between Sand and Clay
Sieve test is conducted to classify soil in geotechnical and civil engineering. The Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) is based on the amount of coarse-grained and fine-grained fractions. There are the ASTM boundaries: 4.75 mm between gravel and sand; and 0.075 mm between sand and fines (which included silt and clay).
