GE Aerospace recently made a final announcement that it has successfully tested a dual-mode ramjet engine. The significance of this successful development is immense, serving as a signal that the gap in aircraft development between the United States and other nations is widening further.
While GE Aerospace's recent dual-mode ramjet engine test appears to be for commercial use rather than military applications, military engines are known to be more refined and reliable than commercial ones, requiring testing to ensure smooth operation across subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic speeds with minimal fuel consumption. It is reported that this particular engine is capable of accelerating to Mach 6, a speed that pilots can withstand.
Engines that operate in this manner are called dual-mode ramjet engines. By lowering the performance of a ramjet engine operating at Mach 3 to below that level, they succeeded in maintaining a cruising speed of Mach 2 for a 6th-generation fighter jet. Although it is the same type as the engine used in the SR-72 hypersonic reconnaissance aircraft, its performance is known to differ. From the moment the United States declares the deployment of 6th-generation fighter jets, the fate of China and Russia's aircraft forces is predicted to vanish from the skies, because there are no aircraft capable of countering U.S. 6th-generation fighter jets, which fly at a cruising speed of Mach 2 to a top speed of Mach 6 and attack with missiles exceeding Mach 6.
